Welcome Back, 2018-2019

Dear R.A.Long Students, Parents, and Guardians:

I hope this letter finds you well, rested, and looking forward to embarking on a new school year. Hard to believe it is just around the corner. (Aug 29)

As we head into a new school year, I am always filled with such optimism. We have such a fantastic group of teachers and students and I relish the first days when students are getting back together with friends and getting acquainted with their new teachers.

High  school is such a great time in a student’s life. I encourage students to get involved in as many activities as possible in the next four years. Athletics, band, drama, service clubs and leadership to name just a few. These are instant ways to make new connections, especially with those that share common interests.

The importance of a high school diploma has never been so great. A diploma helps you to access college, trade school, and now the military. The high school diploma is significant in opening doors of opportunity.

High school does not have to be a barrier for you becoming what you want to be.  However, in order to be successful in high school these are things you can do to help facilitate that success. Here are a few:

  • Show up everyday as a learner. You can’t learn if you are not here.
  • Complete your learning tasks. (Assignments)
  • Prepare for tests and quizzes.
  • Seek help when you need it. Ask questions that clarify for you.

Ultimately, students have to take responsibility for their learning. RA Long staff will be here to facilitate, guide, and coach students along this journey.

There really isn’t a greater rush for staff than to watch young adults graduate and receive their diplomas. It is the reward for the work well done.

Finally, we welcome our new 240 future graduates to the RA Long family! Class of 2022! It’s going to be a fantastic year!
