Summer Activities – Starting June 19 thru August 14 every Wednesday there will be activities held at RAL High School, from 11 AM to 1:30 PM.  Follow @ RALONGASB on INSTAGRAM for more information regarding activities and locations!

 

Auditions for the fall musical, Mamma Mia, will be held Tuesday, September 3rd from 6-9 p.m. in the theatre at R.A. Long. All high school students are welcome to audition. No need to prepare anything in advance: we will teach you everything you need to know. For more information, email Susan Donahue, talk to Susan, or check out the Mainstage Theatre Facebook page.

 

If you are interested in walking in the 4th of July parade with Mainstage Theatre, please see a Thespian officer for more information. Officers are Grace Zacher, Melaina Hayes, Ed Orcutt, and Haley Herbert.

National Egg Day!

 

Juniors will take a state science test on Tuesday, June 4.  Please find your name on a roster in the main halls or in teacher classrooms and report to your test site by 7:50 on Tuesday.  This is an untimed test but most students completed it within two periods last year.  Please bring a charged chrome book and something to read in case there is some down time.

Girls wanting to play summer league basketball… there is a quick meeting with Coach Karno at 1:30 on Wednesday in Room 212. He will be talking about Summer League, camp information, and other summer activities. If you cannot make it, please see Mr. Ott for details.

Winterguard – This is your chance to check it out the Longview Winterguard and learn to spin a flag. Come to the Mark Morris track Monday (today) at 5pm. No experience is needed, we will teach you what you need to know.  Everyone is welcome to give it a try with no commitment.  Practice will be Mondays from 5pm to 6:30pm.  We hope you will join us.

State Testing – Next Tuesday May 21 and Thursday May 23 we will be doing state testing in  English.  This is mostly a sophomore test but if you have not met standard yet as a junior or  senior you will be expected to test as well.  Please find your name on a testing roster posted in the main hall and in teacher’s rooms to find your test site.  Please report to that test site by 7:50.  Bring a charged chrome book with you, earbuds and something to read in case you finish early. Get good sleep the night before, avoid being absent during test days and bring a  “can-do” attitude. Meeting state standard is a graduation requirement

Community Service – Olympic Elementary is having their carnival this year on Friday, May 31st with shifts starting as early as 3:00. They are hoping for about 10 students per shift and they are divided up into three 2-hours shifts. They are happy to work with students that want to stay for two or all three. Please sign up in the Career Center

Summer Camp – There will be a representative from the University of Washington Stem program in the Career Center starting at 10:30 on May 23rd. She will be giving information about a one-week camp in July. There are two tracks for the summer camp that students can choose from: Engineering or Medical Science. Most importantly, the cost for this camp is     only $25, with scholarships available to any students in need. If you would like to stop in to talk with her and get more info. Please sign up in the Career Center.

National Shrimp Day!

Mainstage Theatre presents Shakespeare’s As You Like It opening Friday, May 10 at  7:30 p.m. and continuing May 11, May 17, and May 18 at 7:30 p.m.  There is also and afternoon performance on May 18th at 2 p.m. Tickets are $5 and are available at the door.   Students are admitted free of charge at the May 11th performance.

Long Library Website and checkout the work of    your fellow writers.  After you’ve read the poem, vote for it by rating it. Voting closes on  May 10, and the winners will be announced on May 13

The Kelso/Longview school district art show. It will be at the Cowlitz County Event Center (in the Loowit Room) and the hours are as follows:   Thursday, May 9, open from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

The commitment is ½ hour after school for at least four days to get 1 service point. Please chat with Jodi in the career center if you are interested. The first person to sign up gets to pick what days that they work.

Extreme Theatre is a 24 hour event where students write, act, tech, direct, and design short plays based around a specific theme. Applications are available in the theatre at R.A. Long and are due by Friday, May 3rd at 3 p.m.  Questions? Ask a Thespian Officer or Donahue

Online Poetry Contest – Voting Open

Poetry Month may have come and gone, but our school’s poets have had their work posted.  Go to the Poetry Contest page of the R. A. Long Library Website and checkout the work of    your fellow writers.  After you’ve read the poem, vote for it by rating it. Voting closes on May 10, and the winners will be announced on May 13

The Kelso/Longview school district art show. It will be at the Cowlitz County Event Center (in the Loowit Room) and the hours are as follows:

Monday, May 6, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. is the opening

Tuesday, May 7, open from 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Wednesday, May 8, open from 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Thursday, May 9, open from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Seniors – ….. Are you in need of service-to-school points? If so, we have an opportunity for you to serve your peers as a participant in the after school meals program. The commitment is ½ hour after school for at least four days to get 1 service point. Please chat with Jodi in the career center if you are interested. The first person to sign up gets to pick what days that they work.
